Summer Course: EU and the World

Via Europeanization of Turkey

How powerful an actor in international politics is the EU? How effective and coherent it is (or it can be)? What difference has the Lisbon Treaty made? What can we expect from the creation of the External Action Service?


LSE SUMMER SCHOOL: THE EUROPEAN UNION AND THE WORLD (IR270)

London, 4th July - 22nd of July 2011, LSE

The topics covered include:
* Introduction to the EU's political system, including the institutions and rules of policy-making

* The external economic relations of the EU, including its trade and investment, financial regulation and aid policies

* The development of the institutions of EU foreign policy-making, from European Political Cooperation in the 1970s to the Common Foreign, Security and Defence Policy after the implementation of the Lisbon Treaty

* The intersection between foreign policy and policies on the environment, terrorism and migration

* Enlargement and EU foreign policy

* The evolving role of the EU as an international actor after the implementation of the Lisbon Treaty: the challenge of the EEAS
